T-Mobile says that it’s HSPA+-Enabled 4G Network Now Reaches Over 75 Metropolitan Markets throughout the United States. Operator further states that the T-Mobile network now offers a super-fast, next generation mobile broadband experience to more people than any other wireless network in the country. T-Mobile also has launched a major ad campaign, the carrier said it had turned on HSPA+ in six more metro areas including Chicago.

With T-Mobile sticking to it’s 4G defnition every one around seems to be not very happy. T-Mobile claims that It’s 4G network is capable of theoretical speeds up to 21Mbps and have average download speeds approaching five Mbps on our myTouch 4G phone in some cities with peak speeds of nearly 12 Mbps. 

AT&T told PCMAG.com that the carrier’s current HSPA+ rollout will be faster than the 14.4 Mbps AT&T promised in the past, rebutting recent claims by rival T-Mobile. According to AT&T, the company’s HSPA+ would be faster than 14.4 because it uses 64 QAM modulation. It means that AT&T’s speed would be 21Mbps as well but company did not provide any further details.

With ITU clearing the 4G air now even LTE & WiMAX can not claim to be 4G but it’s very difficult now to take away 4G term from these technologies. However it is unfair to call HSPA+ (3.5G) a 4G technology. LTE initialy was called 3.9G but Industry made it 4G.

According to T-Mobile, operator is increasing it’s HSPA+ footprint reaching 200 million people by the end of this year and plans to offer 42Mbps theoretical speeds in 2011.
