Shaw Selects Nokia Siemens Networks to provide 3G/LTE Network

Canadian cable operator Shaw Communications has selected Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN) to provide the radio access network and core equipment for Shaw’s next generation wireless network.

Canadian cable operator Shaw Communications has selected Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN) to provide the radio access network and core equipment for Shaw’s next generation wireless network.

NSN won the business after an extensive and competitive review process. The equipment from NSN will be fully 3G and LTE capable, giving Shaw a variety of options to deliver broadband wireless services to customers using the Advanced Wireless Services (“AWS”) band, as well as future frequency bands.

Shaw’s wireless network will be fully integrated into our extensive fibre optic network to enable the full potential of high-speed mobile applications to customers.

Earlier in April, Shaw had announced their intention to launch a next generation wireless service, which will provide its customers with a quadruple-play offering. Shaw will spend approximately $100 million during F2010 and anticipates a wireless launch in late 2011.
