3 Italia Launches 4G LTE Services

3 Italia has launched LTE network in the village of Acuto, in the province of Frosinone. Operator plans to activate LTE service nationwide, beginning from Rome and Milan in the month of December.

“Our choice was to start from a small town, the first of a series of forty municipalities [affected by] the digital divide – that will connect together large urban areas by 2013”, said Vincenzo Novari, 3 Italia CEO.

3 Italia is part of the Hutchison Whampoa and currently offers Internet services at 42 Mbps to 80% of the population. It is second operator to announce LTE services in Italy. Last Month, another operator Vodafone Italy had introduced LTE network in Rome and Milan.
