Alcatel-Lucent completes first phase of testing on China Mobile’s TD-LTE network

Alcatel-Lucent and China Mobile has completed the first stage of testing on the China Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) and China Mobile’s TD-LTE trial network in Shanghai.

Alcatel-Lucent and China Mobile has completed the first stage of testing on the China Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) and China Mobile’s TD-LTE trial network in Shanghai.

The trial network provides coverage to an area of Shanghai including the financial district of Lujiazui and the high-tech business park of Zhangjiang.  Alcatel-Lucent’s completion of testing paves the way toward the realization of the goals of China Mobile and the Shanghai Government of establishing a ‘Smart City Demonstration Zone’.

Alcatel-Lucent’s trial network in Shanghai is part of a broader trial program established by the MIIT and China Mobile, to demonstrate how the quality and speed achieved during the field trial enabled by TD-LTE technology can address this rapidly growing demand. The benefits were clearly demonstrated at the end of August 2011 when Alcatel-Lucent made the first trans-Pacific video call using the ground-breaking new lightRadio™ technology.  During the call the video was transmitted to one of the participants travelling in an LTE-connected van around Shanghai using the TD-LTE trial network.

“Our work with China Mobile, the largest mobile operator in the world, is helping to demonstrate how LTE can be applied to challenges that face mobile operators around the world, in terms of truly delivering what broadband has to offer for mobile users.  Here in China we have applied our extensive expertise to deploy and integrate the world’s largest TD-LTE pilot network in one of the busiest cities of the world” said Romano Valussi, President of Alcatel-Lucent Shanghai Bell.

The TD-LTE trial network in Shanghai is powered by Alcatel-Lucent’s  end-to-end LTE solution including base stations (eNodeBs), the Evolved Packet Core and Alcatel-Lucent’s professional services expertise. Alcatel-Lucent conducted a number of advanced test cases on the network during this phase including core network performance testing, network security, wireless performance testing, terminal testing and multi-antenna testing.  With the successful completion of the first phase of the trial China Mobile will now advance the trial to the next phase including the expansion of the network.
