BSNL expands its WiMAX coverage

State-owned Indian telecom major BSNL will expand its WiMAX and wireline coverage to provide broadband connectivity to 2.50 lakh villages across the country over the next 2-3 years.

State-owned Indian telecom major BSNL will expand its WiMAX and wireline coverage to provide broadband connectivity to 2.50 lakh villages across the country over the next 2-3 years.

“As a part of providing broadband connectivity to rural areas, in next 2-3 years, BSNL would cover at least 2.50 lakh villages in the country through wireline, wimax technology or through fibre connectivity,” said BSNL Chairman and Managing Director Kuldeep Goyal according to PTI report.

“The country has over six lakh villages out of which 2.50 lakh are gram panchayats. We intend to cover all these 2.50 lakh villages by providing high-speed broadband,” he said.

BSNL provides broadband in rural areas through wire line and wireless. No other operator provides wire line broadband in rural areas in India according to BSNL.
