Huawei Completes Interoperability Test for Ultra-Flash CSFB Solution

Huawei successfully completed an interoperability test (IOT) for an Ultra-Flash Circuit-switched fallback (CSFB) solution with Huawei infrastructure and Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. chipsets at Huawei’s Shanghai R&D facility.

Huawei successfully completed an interoperability test (IOT) for an Ultra-Flash Circuit-switched fallback (CSFB) solution with Huawei infrastructure and Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. chipsets at Huawei’s Shanghai R&D facility.

The test results indicated that the solution dramatically shortens voice call setup times for 4G networks, and is now ready for commercial deployment on both mobile networks and smartphones.

Ultra-Flash CSFB makes special use of a single radio voice call continuity (SRVCC) process to significantly shorten voice call setup times for 4G networks. According to company, this solution reduces CSFB deployment cost and complexity compared to standard solutions, which typically require upgrades to the entire 2G/3G radio network. 

For the IOT, Huawei provided an end-to-end network solution encompassing the radio access network as well as evolved packet core (EPC) and circuit-switched (CS) core networks. Qualcomm Technologies provided test mobile phones embedded with its latest processor, the MSM8974™.

The IOT successfully completed the Ultra-Flash CSFB based on LTE TDD fallback to GSM and LTE FDD fallback to UMTS. Company states that Ultra-Flash CSFB shortens call setup times by more than 50%, faster than traditional CS call setup times, so it takes only three seconds for both caller and called phone fallbacks.
