Kyocera Corporation has announced that it has recently successfully completed interoperability testing (IOT) of its WiMAX indoor pico base station with the Access Services Network (ASN) Gateway on the ASR 5000 from Cisco. By incorporating Cisco’s ASN Gateway on the ASR 5000, Kyocera may provide its end-to-end WiMAX indoor solutions to Mobile WiMAX operators.

In the WiMAX market, enhancement of indoor coverage is a key factor in maintaining existing customers and developing new customers as a majority of wireless data communications are performed indoors.

Kyocera is now producing two types of MIMO-Based WiMAX regenerative repeaters; “Public Repeaters” for large and medium-sized office buildings, and “Home/SME Repeaters” for residential-use and small and medium-sized enterprises, and also provides an indoor WiMAX pico base station named the “Super Picocell Base Station” for high data traffic areas.

In the WiMAX field, Kyocera has been closely working with UQ Communications Inc. — the first Mobile WiMAX operator in Japan — to develop optimal indoor solutions for Mobile WiMAX.
