Qualcomm, ZTE Collaborate To Boost UMTS Performance

July 6, 2009| By W. David Gardner: Qualcomm and ZTE have teamed up to collaborate on technologies to bring Universal Mobile Telecommunications System performance close to Long-Term Evolution channel bandwidth performance.

In an announcement this week, the firms said they will integrate Qualcomm’s Uplink Interference Cancellation, or ULIC, technology into ZTE’s UMTS base station products. The companies said the collaborative technology will result in a boost of their joint UMTS data throughput by up to 60% and of their voice capacity by as much as 45%.
