Rostelecom Launches 4G LTE Network in Sochi

Russian operator Rostelecom has commissioned a 4G LTE network in Sochi, in locations where the 2014 Winter Olympics take place. Operator has currently installed 40 LTE base stations.

According to the operator this network provides peak data rates up to 60 Mbit/s in downlink and up to 20 Mbit/s in uplink direction.

Existing 4G network will cover an area of ​​40 square kilometers in the Mountain and 50 square kilometers in the coastal cluster, so the LTE network will be available on all major Olympic venues. Sim-card now available in major shopping centers in Sochi.
