Switzerland’s telecom service provider Swisscom has accelerated the expansion and announced that more than one in three Swiss people currently have LTE reception.
Operator has over 300,000 customers that already use its 4G/LTE network. Last November, Swisscom launched LTE services in 26 towns and municipalities. In just four months, Swisscom has now added another 120 locations and now covers 35 per cent of the population in urban and rural areas.
Swisscom expects to enable over 70 per cent of the Swiss population to have access to mobile surfing on the 4G/LTE network by the end of 2013. As part of the annual budget, Swisscom plans to invest a total of around CHF 1.5 billion in the mobile network up to 2017.
