Colombian operator UNE EPM has awarded contract for phase one and two LTE 4G network to Huawei and Ericsson. According to company, the supply and installation of phase one will be done by Huawei and Ericsson will be in charge of phase two.
UNE EPM won country’s 2.5 GHz spectrum auction in June, 2010, enabling it to offer mobile Internet and content services. Operator has set the date for the commercial launch of its LTE network for early 2012.
First deployments will cover cities like Bogota, Medellin, Barranquilla and Cali among others. The service will be in commercial operation in the first quarter of 2012 in the cities of Medellín and Bogotá, continuing the rest of the year in other cities.
