Telecommunications equipment and network solutions provider, ZTE  has signed a packet switched core network (CN) deal with KPN Group Belgium (KPNGB).KPNGB will deploy ZTE’s packet switched CN equipment which supports unified 2G/3G/4G radio access. The contract is the second of its kind between ZTE and KPN, following the September 2010 CN construction project with KPN Germany (E-Plus).

ZTE’s Uni-Core solution supports the seamless evolution from 2G/3G packet core to evolved packet core (EPC), and assists operators in supporting unified 2G, 3G and 4G access.

“KPN and ZTE have a history of successful partnerships cooperating on technologies such as HSPA, core network, etc. The new CN project is another step to enhancing KPN’s overall network performance,” said Tom Poelhekken, CTO, KPNGB.

According to ZTE, as of Q1 2012, it has secured over 20 EPC commercial contracts, deployed more than 80 trial networks globally, and has cooperation with mainstream operators including Vodafone, China Mobile, KPN, Telenor, CSL, H3G and America Movil.
