A1 Telekom Austria is now offering LTE coverage to about one-third of the Austrians, much earlier than envisaged in the original expansion targets. Operator has announced that A1 LTE has already reached to one in three Austrians.

According to A1, it has a total of 800 stations in operation throughout Austria now and is currently focusing on the expansion of the urban areas. In the main cities, its LTE network currently covers between 70% and 93% of population. In Vienna, A1 has more than 400 base stations to provide LTE service for 88% of the residents.

One basis for the performance of LTE is based on fiber optic lines. Operator has invested heavily in this area and already connected more than two thirds of the broadcasting stations with fiber optic lines.
