November 27, 2009 – Target to build Sweden’s best performing high quality mobile broadband network

Telenor Sweden has selected Nokia Siemens Networks for a full upgrade of its 3G network. Under a new agreement, Nokia Siemens Networks will deploy its energy efficient Flexi Multi Radio Base Station to the whole network, and upgrade the core network to increase both capacity and functionality allowing Telenor to deliver high speed mobile broadband services across Sweden. Nokia Siemens Networks will also provide network management systems along with project management, planning, implementation, and optimization services.

“Our ambition is to build Sweden’s best mobile broadband network, responding to the huge demand on the market to provide high-quality, high-speed services,“ said Lars-Åke Norling, CEO for Telenor in Sweden. “Nokia Siemens Networks showed not only the best and a cost-efficient technology solution, but also the strongest commitment and best local delivery capabilities to meet our ambitious time-to market requirement, he continued.”

“Supporting Telenor Sweden in its efforts to ensure everybody in the country can have access to a broadband connection is in line with our own market vision of broadband everywhere in a few years,” said Aril Aanonsen, Head of Telenor Customer Team at Nokia Siemens Networks. “The Swedish market is world leading in its mobile experience and we are confident we can bring further scale and improved quality to Telenor’s mobile broadband services.”

Nokia Siemens Networks will provide Telenor Sweden with a complete upgrade to its 3G radio network, in order to efficiently cater for the exponential growth in bandwidth demand it is currently experiencing. The network will be based on the award-winning Flexi Multi Radio Base Station technology, providing 21Mbit/s HSPA+ services throughout the network. In addition, Nokia Siemens Networks will expand the functionality and capabilities of the core network, including IP-connectivity and providing a common register for GSM, 3G and LTE access.

The NetAct network management system will monitor, manage and optimize the network to ensure high quality services to Telenor Sweden customers. The turn-key agreement includes project management, network implementation, planning and optimization as well as software, hardware and competence development services to Telenor Sweden in order to secure a high quality, high availability network to Telenor Sweden at all times.
