February 25 2010 | RCR Wireless – Last year, at Avren’s North American femtocell conference, we tackled the topic of femtocells in the enterprise; why an enterprise would want them; why vendors would want to target the space; what’s likely to hold back the market. A year later, most of the drivers remain the same, though some have moved forward or evolved.
· New Market. The residential femtocell market opportunity is still in its infancy. Yet, where analysts and vendors predicted that 2007, then 2008, and then 2009 would be a breakout year, the space has been somewhat of a disappointment in terms of market momentum and volumes. The enterprise, then, represents a new – largely untapped – revenue opportunity, if operators can manage to penetrate it.
