TeliaSonera has announced commercial LTE services later this year. The first phase will be launched in Turku and the first expansion in Helsinki.
Sonera opened 4G LTE network for the pre-commercial use in Turku, Finland in June this year. Reuters reports that TeliaSonera has picked Nokia Siemens Networks and Ericsson for the LTE rollout in Finland.
Company could also use Chinese vendors Huawei and ZTE in future expansions, said Marek Hintze, chief of TeliaSonera’s mobile operations in Finland.
Sonera’s LTE network uses two frequencies, 1.8 GHz and 2.6 GHz. The first phase of the modems would work only in the 2.6 GHz frequency. With multiple modems operating frequencies are expected to be launched in spring 2011.
