NSN Announces Enhanced Voice Call Continuity for VoLTE, Increased LTE Data Rates

Nokia Solutions and Networks has launched voice call continuity (VCC) to complement Voice over LTE (VoLTE) by enabling seamless handovers to 2G or 3G networks. According to company, the enhanced solution optimizes VoLTE network connection quality and control with better bearer switching and shorter delay.

This allows for faster and more precise handover, enabling longer use of VoLTE within LTE coverage.

To enable VoLTE offering across both variants of LTE networks, NSN has commercialized its enhanced Single Radio Voice Call Continuity (eSRVCC) solution. NSN provides full VoLTE functionality with IMS core and Telephony Application Server (TAS) core with seamless integration to existing 2G or 3G core networks, and with accelerated hand-over process between different access networks.

In addition, NSN has announced double data rates in FDD-LTE and TD-LTE networks with LTE-Advanced carrier aggregation. with NSN’s LTE-Advanced carrier aggregation, operators can create larger bandwidths for subscribers by aggregating spectrum resources. NSN carrier aggregation works on paired spectrum allocations (FDD-LTE) and on unpaired spectrum allocations (TD-LTE). For example, on a 40MHz allocation of paired spectrum, operators can offer downlink data rates of up to 300Mbps.

NSN has enhanced its Smart Scheduler to deliver up to 50% higher uplink data rates at cell edge and up to 20% more uplink cell capacity. The enhanced performance can be achieved on FDD-LTE and TD-LTE networks through a simple software upgrade on top of NSN Flexi MultiRadio Base Stations.
