Omnitel Opens LTE Network for Smartphones

Lithuanian mobile operator Omnitel has opened LTE network for smartphones in the city of Vilnius. LTE services are now available to customers with HTC, Nokia, Sony and Blackberry 4G smart phones.

Lithuanian mobile operator Omnitel has opened LTE network for smartphones in the city of Vilnius. LTE services are now available to customers with HTC, Nokia, Sony and Blackberry 4G smart phones. Operator has enabled CS fall-back feature to allow customers to fallback to 3G network for voice services. 

Customers with Samsung and LG smartphones will have 4G connectivity in few weeks. In the third stage, following Apple certification procedure in a live network, customers will be have LTE service on iPhone 4G phones. Omnitel has offered 4G LTE internet on tablet PCs since July 2013, while it was enabled for laptops and 4G LTE router Users since April 2011. Earlier Omnitel has announced that sales of tablets with 4G LTE has overtaken sales of 3G-enabled tablets this year.

According to Omnitel, its LTE services are currently available to 40 per cent of Lithuanian population.
