EION Wireless Acquires WiMAX Business from Aviat Networks

EION Wireless, a Canadian manufacturer of broadband wireless products, has acquired the WiMAX business unit from Aviat Networks.

EION Wireless, a Canadian manufacturer of broadband wireless products, has acquired the WiMAX business unit from Aviat Networks. This includes the StarMAX™ Series WiMAX 16d and 16e platforms including base stations, ASN Gateway, Wireless Services Gateway (WSG), and end-user devices. The WiMAX platform, supports both IEEE 802.16e-2005 and 802.16d-2004 WiMAX standards for both mobile and fixed subscriber applications respectively.

“Adding a 4G mobility capability to our wireless division’s portfolio provides EION with access to a broader customer base which can be migrated to EION’s LTE access platforms in the future,” said Kalai Kalaichelvan, Chairman and CEO of EION Wireless. 

The Aviat WiMAX business has provided the enabling technology for more than 40 fixed and mobile WiMAX networks globally. Aviat WiMAX is involved in commercial launches, pilots and trials in diverse parts of the world including Russia, Kazakhstan, India, Indonesia, USA, Thailand, Georgia, Nigeria, Tunisia, Kuwait, South Africa, Kenya, Portugal, Italy, Slovenia, Mauritius, and many more countries. StarMAX systems operate in the 2.3 to 2.6 GHz and 3.3 to 3.7 GHz bands.

The sale of the WiMAX business to EION Wireless was effective as of September 2, 2011. EION Wireless will be exhibiting its new 4G WIMAX solution at GITEX Technology Week October 9th to the 13th at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre.
